Granite countertops are famous for being extremely stylish and durable at the same time. Granite countertops are the first choice of many American families however they do have their pros and cons as well.

Pros

  • They don’t depreciate in value over time. A Granite countertop will still fetch you the same value as the day it was installed, and this is partly due to the fact that granite countertops are extremely durable.
  • It’s a natural surface which gives off a luminous look. Granite tops are aesthetically pleasing and they look really good in the kitchen
  • Its sanitary as well as bacterial contamination is never a problem with granite
  • It is also heat absorbent meaning that it can take the heat from a frying pan or any other hot object for that matter. Hence extremely useful in the kitchen.
  • It is also extremely easy to clean with mild detergent and water, and also relatively easy to maintain as well.

Cons

  • Granite tops are everlasting, meaning that if you grow tired of them you will either have to smash it to pieces and install a new one because you can’t make changes to its appearance
  • Granite is expensive, and hence the added labor installation costs might be a tad bit too much for those who are on a budget.
  • Because of its bulk Granite needs additional structural support at times
  • Once attached to the cabinets Granite can be quite difficult to remove and it may even end up damaging your cabinets as well.
  • Each slab of granite is different so it might not be a good idea installing it if you are looking for a more uniform look.

Granite however still remains a favorite amongst home owners and that is primarily because of the way it looks and how it increases the value of your house.
